Encanto provides lodging and the opportunity to connect with nature, culture and yourself with a variety of experiences in Drake Bay, Costa Rica.

A unique location offers all in one: Jungle, river and a lonesome beach! Cabañas surrounded by nature and equipped with hammocks invite to relax and observe wildlife.

Immerse yourself in nature and discover wildlife by walking on our private jungle trail or paddling on the river and lagoon. All nature experiences allow to dive even deeper into nature e.g. the Encanto Night Tour, a trip to the world famous Corcovado National Park, snorkeling around Caño Island or spending time on the ocean with dolphins or whales. Join a cultural experience to learn about a local craft as gold-seeking, processing sugar cane or making chocolate.

Experience peace of mind observing breathtaking sunsets or walking on the beach and feel the sand between your toes.

Encanto is a family-run business with familiar atmosphere. All buildings are self-made and we attend our guests by ourselves in spanish, english or (swiss-)german. We cook for our guests whenever possible with ingredients from our garden. Enjoy hearty meals in our restaurant with ocean view. Take advantage of the free pick-up service from Drake airport or boat station and free parking.

Lodging

We offer detached Cabañas nestled between jungle, garden and a river, with view to a lagoon and the beach.

Cabaña Ocelot

Cabaña Ocelot is on a high floor and features one bedroom with a matrimonial bed, a private bathroom and a balcony.

The room walls are made of white cane.

The balcony is equipped with a double hammock and provides a view to the lagoon, beach and Caño Island.

You can also find an electric kettle for making your own coffee/tea and a fridge for storing cold water/drinks.

Cabaña Tapir

Cabaña Tapir features 2 bedrooms with a private bathroom each, a balcony with
hammocks and view to the lagoon, beach and Caño Island. It has capacity for up to 6 persons.

Bedroom Tapir: matrimonial bed + bunk bed + private bathroom with shower and toilet.

Bedroom Kinkajou: matrimonial bed +private bathroom with shower and toilet.

Balcony: 2 hammocks, chairs, fridge, electric kettle, coffee and tea

Restaurant

We offer meals prepared with love at our cozy restaurant with ocean view where you can enjoy amazing sunsets on clear evenings!

We put emphasis on both local food and fresh vegetables, fruits and salads. We have an own organic garden and own free range chicken where we can harvest some fruit, vegetable and eggs.

A vegetarian alternative to the menu is always available. We also take account of any special diets or allergies in the preparation of our meals (please advise us in advance of your special needs).

A lunch package can be prepared for you on demand (on day tours lunch is included).

Discover the river and beach using one of our canoes

Experience the peaceful atmosphere by navigating on the still water in the jungle or next to the beach. There is a little lagoon (in dry season and the beginning of raining season) and 2 arms and 2 creeks of the river Drake to discover the freshwater wildlife as night herons, king fishers, herons, jacanas, fishes, Jesus Christ lizards, river otters, turtles, caimans, crabs or monkeys… You may just use our canoes to go to the beach while observing the huge frigate bird drinking water in the lagoon. This service is free exclusively for our clients.

Enjoy the beach

Just in front of Encanto Lodge, after passing the lagoon, there is a 3km long deserted beach inviting for a walk, to feel the salty water between your toes or watch breathtaking sunsets over the see beside Caño Island. Swimming is also possible when the sea is calm. There is a trail parallel to the beach on the north, where you can often see monkeys or scarlet macaws. On the northern end of the sandy beach you can find rocks that form little whirl pools during low tide.

Hiking

Beside the beach there are several trails around Encanto Lodge to walk on. We offer a 20 minutes trail (bamboo trail) just on our farm through the jungle to look for wildlife and breath in nature. There is a 3 hours hike to a hidden paradise, a deserted mangrove beach where it is beautiful to swim. Or you might want to go for a walk to Agujitas (1 hour to Drake Bay Center) or even farer to discover the southern coast of Drake Bay. Or stroll to the nearest village El Progreso to the local supermarket and see pre-columbian stonespheres and some birds on the way.

Fishing

The lagoon and river, especially the river mouth at the end of raining season, are ideal for fishing. You can try your luck from the shore or by canoe. For this activity you must bring your own fishing rod. There are red snappers and snooks, among others.

Wildlife observation

From any point on our farm you might do your own wildlife observation. Most of the animals that inhabit Corcovado National Park also live on or visit our farm. You just need luck and patience and be on the right place at the right time…
